Sorry I haven't updated this site much in the past few months. To all of you who have sent in updates and site suggestions: thanks for your continued patience. Our local ministry in the Dallas area has kept us fairly busy. Having real parishioners is a lot of work. Peter Anson, eat your heart out!
The 40th anniversary of Patriarch Dr. Papa Joe Vrendenburgh's consecration is coming up on the 26th if anyone wants to drop him a line and congratulate him.

Sad news item from The Washington Times: Autocephalous Bishop Paulo Pereira murdered or martyred
BRAZIL
Dissident Catholic gunned down
SÃO PAULO - The local leader of a dissident branch of the Roman Catholic Church was gunned down inside his church's headquarters in São Paulo, police said yesterday.
The gunman shot Bishop Paulo Pereira five times in the chest Wednesday before fleeing. Bishop Pereira, 38, led the Vétero Catholic Church, in the low-income district of Guainazes. He died on the way to the hospital.
Editors Note: The now sainted Bp. Pereira was head of The Vétero-Catholic Church in Brazil. I feel badly that I have several pieces of email from Pereira in my inbox which I haven't gotten around to translating and reading yet.

Recently, CITI Ministries, Inc.: Society of Christ's Priesthood (formerly known as Celibacy Is The Issue, and also known as Rent-A-Priest) joined The International Council of Community Churches, effectively making themselves part of the autocephalous church movement. CITI, headed by Louise Haggett, has been instrumental in reactivating the ministry of numerous married/resigned Roman Catholic presbyter-priests. I welcome them to this movement as we strive to help build the kingdom of Jesus Christ.

Bp. Peter Brennan reports that Bp. Peter Compton-Caputo went home to the Lord on 15 Aug. 2001. Obituary.

Like Grayson Warren Brown once sung, "Been so busy".
Bp. Dominic Biltcliffe announces that he is no longer with Bp. Baymon or his church, The Holy Christian Orthodox Church. Instead Bp. Biltcliffe has resurrected The Western Rite Orthodox Catholic Church (WROCC). May his ministry in Massachusettes go well!
I wish to express my disappointment that the independent / autocephalous movement (Bp. Stallings, Bp. Baymon et al.) got caught up in the Cardinal Milingo-Rev. Moon affair this past May. As if this movement didn't have enough to deal with! [Sigh. Had to get that off my chest. Rev. Fran and I expected better of Stallings.]

Again, sorry for being so busy.
I do notice, however, that the twin miscreants have been too busy -- their idle hands certainly do the devil's work, don't they?
I temporarily disabled posting to the guestbook (probably for about a week). If you want to post something during that time, just send me an email instead.
2001.06.17
Sorry for being so busy -- I haven't had time to attend to this site since April 26, and hadn't even checked my email between May 1 and yesterday.
I see the independent-movement had something to do with the marriage of that one Roman bishop in New York City. I'll add details when I figure it all out. [You, know, the same old secrecy and intrigue thing...]
I also see one of the miscreants warmed the heart of a man in Arkansas. Golly! (grin)

Fran and I travelled this past Triduum weekend to visit with clergy friends in Florida -- and to get it away from it all for a few days. We concelebrated a wonderful Easter liturgy, had some good meals and got to enjoy the sea and some awesome scenery.
Right before we left, though, one of my neighbors, Tye, passed away from complications due to pneumonia -- he was only 38. Fran and I were priviledged to administer to him -- at the express request of his wife -- they're both Baptist -- the Sacrament of the Sick a week prior, and the Last Rites the day before he transitioned from this world unto glory. Tye was a good man, and we'll all miss him very much.
Another sad thing I'll briefly mention here: The twin internet miscreants three-and-pee criminally spammed the independent movement and defamed me and Fran this past Easter Sunday, and then, two days, posted vile garbage to this web site's guestbook. What a bunch of satanic morons, thinking they can overcome God's holy work in the autocephlaous movement with their feeble attempts at puerile lawlessness!

Just got back from another trip to New Jersey with Fran. I co-presided at the funeral liturgy earlier today in Medford, NJ -- working with a Southern Baptist minister -- for another brother-in-law. About 125 attended.
On an even sadder note, the twin websites of you-know-who went back on the air yesterday. However their websites on "beseen.com" appear to be permanently gone because that firm was purchased by LookSmart, and the free-web-page feature was discontinued. (Not a moment too soon!)

Alleluia! The Lord be praised again and again! Earlier today CJ3's (and Prentice's) other web-hosting provider, beseen.com, went off the air!

Alleluia! The Lord be praised! Today, sometime between 4 AM and 8 PM CST, all internet links to CJ3's and Prentice's web-hosting provider were severed. This means their two bloody web sites are off the air for now!

This past Friday, Deacon Lyn Goetz was ordained to the priesthood in Bellevue, Washington by Bp. Wayne Boosahda for the The Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches. Lyn had studied with Fran and myself at the Institute for Christian Ministries (ICM).
I received a note today from Bp. Francis Spataro reporting that Bishop Robert Ronald Ramm had passed away on Dec. 26, 2000.
I received a note dated 2001.02.28 from Bp. Peter Brennan: "[Bp.] David Billings had a heart attack and is in the ICU unit. He is doing well." Fran and I concelebrated at Bp. Billing's consecration a year ago in Springfield, MA.

Some days ago, I was invited to serve as a judge in a middle-school science fair, and this past Tuesday, I did just that. This was the same school where I taught (as a volunteer) about the web and the internet this past fall.
Some of you may have noticed that the "Bad Fruits" link didn't work for about a week. Just to allay your fears -- it was the purchase of Deja.com by Google.com that did it. The link works again now. PTL.
Learned today that Jim Shinkle was ordained to the priesthood last month by Abp. Bostwick in Milwaukee. Shinkle is now serving at the Cathedral parish there.
Learned a few weeks ago that Lloyd Samuels was ordained last month to the priesthood by Bp. Spataro.

On Wed. Jan. 24, Fran and I went to Potter's House, a large "non-demoninational" charismatic church, in Dallas to hear Bp. Veron Ashe preach for at least 90 minutes to a crowd of over 2,000 believers. Wow! Awesome preaching! [Call or write Potter's House if you want a copy of the videotape from that evening.]
Drove out to Weatherford, Texas (west of Fort Worth) on Sat. Jan. 13 and Sat. Jan 27 to teach Computers Merit Badge for area Boy Scous at the "Merit Badge College" held there at Weatherford College. I taught one section of 13 scouts on both dates. Had two adult "teaching assistants" working with me. Felt just like a college professor.
Today was Scout Sunday, BTW.

Fran and I travelled to New Jersey over the Christmas holiday to bury her brother-in-law. On Thurs. Dec. 28, I presided at his funeral liturgy in Medford, NJ, with 90 attending. During the lengthy funeral procession, Fran and I spotted a pair of bald eagles in flight. Fittingly during the liturgy, we had sung Mike Joncas' "On Eagles Wings".
Bp. David Strong announced in late Dec. that will be leaving The Apostolic Catholic Church in America (ACCA) on Jan. 15 to focus his ministry on his local community. Soon afterward, Rev. Elisheva Barsabe resigned to pursue incardination elsewhere. Then, last week, Fr. John Bell resigned in order to embrace Judaism. The two remaining active members of the ACCA, Fr. Bob Withrow and my wife, Rev. Fran Begonja, are currently evaluating their options.

*** EXTREMELY IMPORTANT ***
Mr. Jim Turney of the 'zine MacInTouch notes that the IRS is looking at organizational Web sites "for violations of tax code pertaining to tax exemption":
"Seemingly innocuous web-page features like links, chat rooms and advertising could invite an IRS crackdown, and lead to termination of a site sponsor's tax-exempt status.
"Check out [OMB Watch's] IRS Announcement 2000-84 and you'll see how the IRS is considering all kinds of deep-thinking questions about what tax-exempt web sites should be allowed to do. The IRS is allowing comments from the general public; the deadline is mid-February of 2001."
I'll comment more on this in a few days.

For the first time during a liturgy I was presiding at, I got bit by a mosquito. The warm (80F) Texas sunset and early evening was just right for an outdoor Advent liturgy, or so I thought...

CJ3 and Victor Prentice try *again* to shut down this lawful web site, and manage to temporarily get 4 pages blocked (notebook.html, articles.html, people_jkl.html, etc.). Shame on you two!
CJ3's registration for both "CEC" and "Continuing Episcopal Church" have been denied by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office according to a published report by noted copyright attorney Dr. John Berryhill of Philadelphia. This official decision vindicates all those autocephalous-movement churches who have been harrassed by CJ3 on the pretext of this "issue".

Bp. Christopher Reynolds, OSBM, 48, of New York City, passed away. It has been reported that his cremains will be placed in the

Holy Trinity Community Church, a 24-year old independent-movement parish in Dallas, Texas, with its own building (mortgage long since paid off) held its last liturgy. Many of the pastors over the years -- including interim co-pastors Fran and Tony Begonja -- were present.

Had been in the Bay Area, California, all week attending a class for my secular work. Decided to visit folks over the weekend. On Friday I got to visit both with my publisher, and with Roman Catholic pastoral theologian and fellow author, Joseph Stallings, in San Jose. Turns out that Joe Stallings was partly familiar with the independent-movement and personally knows both Dr. Vredenburgh and Bp. Jack.
On Saturday I briefly visited Bp. Donald Weeks in Oakland. I was impressed with his ministry: he and his fellow labourers run a men's shelter in Oakland. Their building also has both a chapel and quarters for Bp. Weeks and other staffers.
Pentecost Sunday was a double-header of grace. I started the day by concelebrating the Divine Liturgy at St. Mary of Magdala Pro-Cathedral/MTOCOI in Fresno with Bp. Veron Ashe and his priests and deacons. Awesome liturgy -- fine example of what can be done to integrate liturgical worship with use of the charismata in a multi-cultural pastoral environment. (Heavy on the incense.) Beautiful worship space. We did lunch afterwards at Macaroni Grill; they like to party, too. I then drove from Fresno to Santa Cruz and was able to visit for a bit with Dr. "Papa Joe" and Virginia Vrendenburgh in Santa Cruz. I had heard a lot about them over the years and was finally able to meet them in person.

Rev. Fran and I flew to Seattle to hang out for the weekend with Bp. David Strong (Diocese of the Holy Cross/MTOCOI, formerly the ACCA). On Saturday, Bp. Strong ordained Bob W. of Tacoma to the transitional diaconate; Bob's ministry is pastoring St. Aelred's faith community in Tacoma. On Sunday we all concelebrated the Divine Liturgy at Bp. David's community, Holy Cross, in Seattle.
During the weekend we also got to watch professionally produced videos of two charismatic-liturgical "convergence" liturgies celebrated at Imago Dei in Denver. In one, Bp. Veron Ashe of Fresno, preached and presided. In the other, Bp. Strong preached and co-presided.
On Sunday, we got to briefly visit at Seattle U. with Deacon Lyn Goetz of the CEEC. The three us of had attended together the two-year ICM "Formation for Healing Ministry" program in the Seattle area.
Meanwhile, back in Dallas, the board of Holy Trinity formally named Rev. Fran and I interim co-pastors.

A double header of grace: attended both the Roman first holy communion of one of my nephews in New Jersey, and fully initiated (baptism, chrismation, first eucharist) my newborn twin nephews, also in New Jersey.
2000.04.20 ?
For the second year in a row, I preside at a Holy Thursday celebration of the Lord's Pesach (Messianic Seder) at Holy Trinity. Folks learned lots about the origin of the Eucharist and the Church.

This web site became temporarily unavailable due to malicious interference from the independent-movement's baddest apple, CJ3.

On. Sun. Jan 2, Bp. Veron Ashe preaches at Fr. Paul Schell's Imago Dei Community (church) in Denver, Colorado. Four weeks later, on Sun. Jan 30, Bp. David Strong preaches there. [Call or write Imago Dei if you'd like copies of the videotapes from each Sunday's Mass.]

Got to hang out at "the corner" and do street ministry one evening in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with my Roman buddies, Frs. Mike Sullivan and Bob Wheelock of Franciscan Peacemakers. How they wish we were back in Wisconsin so Rev. Fran could labor with them again!
1999.12.10 ?
Rev. Fran and I journeyed to Springfield, Mass. to concelebrate in the consecration of Bp. David Billings. Bp. Dominic Biltcliffe presided and served as primary consecrator. Bp. David Strong of Seattle served as one of the co-consecrators. Bps. Richard Cardarelli and Bp. Richard Roy, OSJD, attended.
1999.11.23 ?
I concelebrated with Bp. Ray Kelly and Fr. Tony Santore at CACINA's Holy Trinity Pro-Cathedral parish in Reston, Virginia. It's nice to see an autocephalous-movement liturgy with 60+ folks in attendance.
1999.09 - 2000.01
CJ3 attacks the lawful web sites of several independent-movement jurisdictions, including the Charismatic Episcopal Church and the Antiochian Catholic Church of America.
